What Akua Serwaa is about

Akua Serwaa is a love song rooted in Ashanti culture. Kweku Darlington sings about a woman whose grace and loyalty have won his heart, and the lyrics draw on the proverbs and imagery of Twi highlife, giving the song a depth beyond a simple serenade. The chorus repeats her name like a refrain, and the arrangement, with its warm guitar and steady rhythm, suits the subject perfectly.

Why the song connects

Songs addressed to Ghanaian women by name have a special place in the culture, and Akua Serwaa has found an audience among every woman who shares the name and every man who loves one. It has become a favourite for dedications and weddings, and it rounds out a February 2026 run from Kweku Darlington that has shown the romantic, highlife side of an artiste first known for a hustle anthem.

Heard alongside “Maabena”, “Darling Music” and “For Better Or Worse”, it forms a small collection of modern Kumasi highlife worth keeping.
