Black Sherif leans into his confidence on Swagga, a record that mixes drill energy, Afrobeats bounce and the highlife melodies that run through all his music. The Konongo-born star has spent his career singing about pain and survival, and Swagga is the sound of a young man who has come through it and knows exactly how good he looks on the other side.
The song is short, direct and built around a hook that repeats the title with the growl that has become Blacko’s signature. The production is heavy on bass and drums, but the melody keeps it from being just another drill record, and the official visualiser has helped it spread quickly.

What Swagga is about
Swagga is a celebration of self-belief. Black Sherif raps and sings about his style, his walk, the way rooms change when he enters and the long road from Konongo to international stages. There is still pain underneath, as there always is in his music, but the mood here is triumphant. It is the sound of an artiste enjoying his moment.
The beat blends drill 808s with Afrobeats percussion and a melodic loop that nods to highlife, the formula that has made Black Sherif’s sound so distinctive. It works in the club, on headphones and on the street speakers of Kumasi and Accra alike.
About Black Sherif
Black Sherif, born Mohammed Ismail Sherif Kwaku Frimpong in Konongo in the Ashanti Region, became a national phenomenon with “Second Sermon” in 2021 and a continental one with “Kwaku the Traveller” in 2022, which topped charts across Africa. His debut album “The Villain I Never Was” earned international acclaim, and he won the BET Award for Best International Flow in 2023. His second album “Iron Boy” took Album of the Year at the 2026 Ghana Music Awards, where he was also named Artiste of the Year. He remains one of the most important young artistes on the continent.
Why Swagga stands out
Black Sherif’s catalogue is known for heavy emotion, so a record this confident is a change of pace, and fans have embraced it. The hook has become a popular TikTok sound, the visualiser has done strong numbers on YouTube and the song has been a staple of his live sets. It also shows his range. He can make you cry with “Oil in My Head” and make you strut with Swagga, and both sound like him.
For the Ashanti Region, the song is another point of pride. Black Sherif carries Konongo with him everywhere he goes, and Swagga, with its Twi lines and its unmistakable confidence, is as much a hometown record as a global one.
