Friday’s traditional wedding of Efya and Tomi Thomas was not only a celebration of love. It was also one of the best displays of Ghanaian fashion we have seen this year. From the groom’s kente and gold to the guests who turned up in their finest, here are the Efya wedding pictures everyone is talking about, with our picks of the best looks.
If you missed the main story, read how Efya Nokturnal married Tomi Thomas in Accra. All the pictures below were posted on Instagram by the couple and the bloggers who covered the event, and are shown here through Instagram’s own embed.
1. The groom: Tomi Thomas in kente and gold
The Nigerian musician went fully Ghanaian for the day. He wore a green kente cloth with orange patterns, a gold headband and layers of heavy gold jewellery around his neck and wrists. According to the event credits shared by blogger GH Kwaku, the groom’s Ghanaian traditional styling was done by Rubeadz GH, and the kente fabric for both bride and groom came from Kente Kiosk. In this clip, he explains why he sent his family with the marriage items.

2. The bride: Efya’s kente and asooke gown
Efya chose a gown that brings her husband’s culture and hers together. The event credits list her kente and asooke gown by Quophi Akotuah, kente from Kente Kiosk, traditional accessories by Selina Beb, styling by Kobina Benyarko and makeup by Barimah Makeup Artistry. Asooke (aso-oke) is the hand-woven cloth of the Yoruba people of Nigeria, so pairing it with kente was a fitting nod to a Ghana–Nigeria union.
A day before the wedding, Efya shared these regal photos with Tomi Thomas on her own Instagram page, with the caption “And so it begins.” She is veiled in gold embroidery while he stands behind her in black and gold.

3. Hajia4Reall’s beaded lace and orange gele
Hajia4Reall, one of the bridesmaids, arrived in a G-Wagon according to YEN.com.gh, and her outfit matched the entrance. She wore a brown lace dress covered in beads, with flared sleeves, finished with a burnt-orange gele (head wrap) and an orange clutch. It is the kind of look that works for any Ghanaian or Nigerian wedding guest who wants to stand out without wearing kente.

4. Kente made modern: the cut-out gown
One outfit that caught our eye was this off-the-shoulder kente gown with a cut-out at the waist and sparkling trim, worn with a silver handbag. It shows how designers keep finding new ways to wear kente. Ameyaw TV posted it as Sister Derby, Lali x Lola and Dapper Jayden arrived together.

5. The mothers and elders in full traditional dress
The older generation showed everyone how it is done. Efya’s mother, Nana Adwoa Awindor, welcomed the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, and both were dressed in kente, with matching head wraps, gold jewellery and bangles.

The CEO of the National Film Authority, actress Kafui Danku, chose a gold-and-brown patterned outfit with dark sunglasses, a simple look that still fit the colours of the day.

Kente styles for wedding guests: what we learnt from Efya’s wedding
If you are looking for kente styles for a wedding guest in Ghana, Efya’s wedding offered plenty of ideas:
- Mix kente with other fabrics. The bride paired kente with Nigerian asooke, and some guests mixed kente with lace and beads.
- Orange and gold were the colours of the day. Many guests wore burnt-orange head wraps and gold jewellery, which matched the decor.
- Kente does not have to be a wrapper. The cut-out kente gown shows that a modern cut can still carry the cloth with respect.
- Let accessories finish the look. Gold bangles, beads, hand fans and a good clutch did a lot of work for the best-dressed guests.
The team behind the looks
According to the full credits posted by GH Kwaku, the bride’s wedding gown for the white wedding segment was by Shape by Nelson, her robe and the bridesmaids’ robes by Maxline Fashion, her traditional wedding robe and performance dress by Sexy Madam, and the makeup of the bride’s mother by Made Up By Nini. Photography was handled by Thret Studios, Bishop Studioz, The Accra Paparazzi and Vibrant Pels.
